Через 14 лет полного молчания Accept выпустили новый альбом Blood of the Nations

Я бы, пожалуй, промолчал об этом событии, если бы, как это часто бывает, результат возвращения после такого долгого перерыва был бледной тенью предыдущих альбомов. Но нет же! Это не просто не бледная тень, это по меньшей мере не слабее, чем Balls to the Walls, а это уже тянет на небольшое чудо.

Так вышло, что я начал слушать, не потрудившись даже поинтересоваться нынешним составом, и поэтому первые секунд десять-двадцать остро сожалел, что нет Удо Диркшнайдера. Потом расслышал, что по крайней мере Хоффман на месте и успокоился. Да простят меня фанаты Удо, Accept хорош и без него. Без него как-то музыки больше. Нет, не в том смысле, что из-за него ее не слышно :). Просто мне первый Generation Clash всегда нравился больше, чем второй. Собственно, они ведь не зря расстались, еще в 90-х.

Новый вокалист вписался замечательно (Mark Tornillo из T.T. Quick), поскольку умеет как “спеть под Диркшнайдера”, так и показать что-то свое, когда нужно. В результате появилось что-то новое, и даже в классическом, всем знакомом звучании Accept нашлись новые грани, что делает весь альбом как-то заметно богаче.

Вероятно, с Удо Диркшнайдером он звучал бы уникальнее, но звук у Accept и так достаточно уникален и узнаваем. В этом смысле ничего не изменилось, есть даже хор как на Balls to the Walls, плюс все та же виртуозная игра двух гитар, которую невозможно с чем-то перепутать. Очень рекомендую, особенно тем, кто успел соскучиться по классическому металлу.

Не хватает прорывов, таких как Metal Heart или Fast as a Shark, или все та же Balls to the Walls, то есть таких, которые бы повлияли, вызвали волну подражаний, изменили мир. Но альбом в целом очень силен. А прорывы, надеюсь, еще будут. Если Accept опять не пропадет на 14 лет.

I wouldn’t mention this if this new album was, as it often happens with such reunions, a pale shade of the former albums. Not at all! “Not a pale shade” is quite an understatement. In fact it is probably one of the best heavy metal albums of 2010, and I personally even consider it nearly equal to Balls to the Walls. So it’s rather kind of miracle.

I started listening without having read first who are the current band members and of course realized at once that there is no Udo Dirkschneider. It took 10-20 seconds to find out that it’s not that bad after all. Then I caught the familiar sound of Wolf Hoffman guitar and got comforted and never remembered again about Mr. Udo while listening the album. I hope Mr. Udo fans can forgive me, but Accept is quite good even without him. I’d even say, there’s kind of more music there without him. I don’t mean he is too loud :). But I always liked the first Generation Clash more than the second one, if you see what I mean..

The new vocalist is Mark Tornillo from T.T. Quick, and he fits with the band surprisingly well. He is able to sound a bit like Udo sometimes, but he rather brings something new, and this is what makes the album really good.

Of course Udo is much more distinctive but distinctiveness is not what Accept ever lacked. One could easily recognize Accept sound even without any vocal at all. This album features the same unique all too familiar sound composed of masterly two guitars performance and those backing choruses we love so much since Balls to the Walls. Those of you who have longed for this kind of classic metal sound, you are going to love this album.

There is no breakthrough hits like Metal Heart or Fast as a Shark or Balls to the Wall. I mean, there is no something changing the world, influencing music or at least heavy metal, but the album as a whole is really very good. With the start like this, there will be breakthrough hits soon, too, I believe. Of course if they are not going to go silent again after this album for another 14 years.
